Now, where to start with Zelos.. Ah, yes! He was a cute little boy who was destined to become the Chosen of Tethe'alla, after his father. He was pampered by all of Tethe'alla due to his status. However, poor little Zelos absolutely hated it. No one would like him because of his personality, or even his looks. They were only after him because he was to be a Chosen. His family life wasn't too good, either. His mother and his father never paid much attention to him, and they were constantly two-timing eachother. So one day, Zelos' father, who happened to be the Chosen at that time, married a half-elf woman, and they had a child who was named Seles. Zelos and Seles were the closest of siblings, constantly playing with eachother to no end. However, one snowy night, it all shut down for poor Zelos. He and his mother, Mylene Wilder, were building snowmen outside of their house when Seles' mother happened to show up. She figured that since his father was dead, and that if she killed Zelos, then Seles would become the new Chosen. She launched off a magic attack on him, but Mylene interfered, shoving her son out of the way and taking the hit. As he remembered, the snow ran red with her blood, and she grabbed Zelos by the shoulder, whispering words that would haunt him for quite a while, "You should have never been born." After that incident, the half-elf was executed, and his beloved sister Seles was sent off to the Southeast Abbey.

Zelos began to hate his life as the Chosen. His mother had died because of it, his sister was taken away, and he pretty much thought it was all his fault. As years passed by, he began to use his status for some advantages. He managed to sucker the girls in his class with his looks to take down notes for him, thus his graduation at the Academy at the top of his class. He was somewhat categorized as a womanizer, and constantly flirts with all the women. Things change when he meets Lloyd's group in Meltokio. Zelos attempts to flirt with the unresponsive Colette, only to be flung into the air with such force. Thankfully, the Exsphere he had saved his butt from a nice meeting with the ground, and he takes his leave. They meet up again when the Pope and the gang strike up a little argument about whether they were free or not. Zelos offers to keep tabs on them, and then begins his journey with them!

He was considered to be an play-boy in the group; he tends to call the females in the group affectionate nicknames (while giving the boys rather insulting ones), and flirts with them occasionally. I'll skip most of the story, saying that he was working for Cruxis in order to get away from his title. After letting the angels kidnap Colette, he states that he had been betraying them all along; he had been leaking information to Cruxis and the Renegades, and thus disappears along with the angels, thus beginning Lloyd's trek to rescue his friend, believing that Zelos had actually left them.. Along the way, everyone gets caught into traps that were supposed to make them stay there forever, but Zelos discreetly freed them, and in the chamber room of Yggdrasil, he admits that he had betrayed them, but it was to help Kratos get them Aionis; a mineral that would prove to be essential in their quest.

.. and so! Zelos is what you might call a narcissist, which probably stems from the fact that no one seemed to care about him when he was a little boy. His love of women also relates to that his mommy never loved him. He's usually laid-back and happy, always seeming to glomp Lloyd in certain situations and flirting with women carelessly. However, behind that cheerful demeanour is a regretful man. He's upset about his title, and he's upset about what he's done, but as he grows closer to the group, he learns to move along and enjoy life the best he can. .. Doesn't stop him from stealing all the girls with his looks and mooching items off of them, though.
